FRISCO — Stars unrestricted free agent Max Domi has played for six teams in seven seasons. He aspires to slow down that type of pace. “I’ve been one of those...
“He’s got high-end offensive skills. He’s a competitive, tough, stocky guy so he plays the game hard. So we just thought he’s a good fit,” Stars general manager Jim Nill told 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM] after acquiring Domi. “We’re looking for somebody who fits in that top line for us. We’ve had a little bit of a void there and we’re just trying to look for the right fit.
“It was something that I’ll never forget and I’m very grateful to be a part of,” Domi said. “It’s really unfortunate how it ended. I think we all wish we were still playing, obviously, but it just goes to show you why it’s the hardest trophy in sports to win.” That is another factor that will play into Domi’s off-season plans. Winning a Stanley Cup is a dream, he said, and he said it takes a special group to do it.
Special groups, however, are costly. The Stars enter this off-season with $7.9 million in cap space, according to Spotrac. That doesn’t equate to a ton of flexibility, especially for a team that has other free agents, like forward“Who knows the future has in store,” Domi said, “but this group has a very, very bright future.
“Hopefully there are other opportunities out there, whoever that is, and I’m hoping one of them is going to be staying here.”
