Joe Pavelski scored the tiebreaking goal on a third-period power play, and the Stars overcame Sidney Crosby's first tally in Texas in a 3-2 victory over the Penguins on Thursday night.
DALLAS — Jake Oettinger allowed Sidney Crosby's first career goal in Dallas. The Stars goaltender also made plenty of big saves, including a few on Pittsburgh's high-scoring star.
The 24-year-old Oettinger, who had a breakout performance in a first-round playoff loss last spring, was coming off three consecutive sub-.900 save percentages, and wasn't very happy with himself. “A lot of people have been saying they think I’m exhausted,” he said. “No one knows how I feel except for me. I feel great. No one can say that about tonight.”
Despite the loss, the Penguins held on to the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference because of Florida's 6-2 loss to Toronto. Pierre-Olivier Joseph pulled the Penguins within 3-2 with six minutes to go, but Oettinger and the Stars held on.
