Starbucks Workers United (SBWU) authorizes a strike if necessary, citing lack of progress in negotiations with Starbucks regarding wages, staffing, and unfair labor practices.
Unionized Starbucks workers voted to authorize a strike if necessary, days before a scheduled meeting with the company for further negotiations. The union, Starbucks Workers United (SBWU), claims Starbucks has not yet presented a comprehensive economic package and hundreds of legal disputes over unfair labor practices remain unresolved. SBWU has been advocating for higher pay, increased staffing, and schedule improvements.
While the timing of a potential strike has not been determined, thousands of Starbucks workers at over 525 stores belong to SBWU. The union stated it was time to finalize a foundational framework that includes meaningful investments in baristas and to resolve unfair labor practice charges. Starbucks, however, expressed disappointment at the union's consideration of a strike, stating that negotiations have been productive, resulting in 30 meaningful agreements on dozens of topics since April
