Starting this week, all company-owned Starbucks locations will transition to ceramic mugs as the default option for beverages consumed in stores. Customers who order a 'for here' drink will be served in a ceramic mug, although they can still opt for a glass or bring their own personal mug.
The return of condiment bars is another significant change, allowing customers to personalize their drinks by adding their preferred creamer, milk, and sweeteners. This move comes after Starbucks reversed its controversial 'open-door' policy earlier this month. The previous policy, implemented in 2018 following an incident where two Black men were arrested at a Philadelphia Starbucks for meeting without purchasing anything, required customers to buy a beverage or food item to spend time in stores or use restrooms. The new code of conduct aims to create a welcoming environment for all while addressing concerns about loitering and inappropriate behavior. The updated policy also bans discrimination, outside alcohol consumption, smoking, vaping, and panhandling.
