Yoda’s dark side warning from The Empire Strikes Back has actually been proven wrong multiple times throughout Star Wars and the Skywalker saga.

The greatest warning from Master Yoda during The Empire Strikes Back has actually been continuously proven wrong by Star Wars' biggest stories. Since the beginning of Star Wars in 1977, a core theme of the franchise has always centered on the light and dark sides of the Force. Stemming from this, a great deal of internal character conflicts has focused on the pull to either the light or the dark side, depending on which side the character begins on.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT From Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker to Kylo Ren and Rey, the internal struggle between light and dark has always been a prevalent character arc in the Skywalker saga. This arc was first set up in The Empire Strikes Back, in which Yoda issued a warning to Luke: "If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Obi-Wan's apprentice.

However, as is known by the events of Return of the Jedi, this was not the case. Anakin Skywalker was eventually redeemed after saving Luke by throwing the Emperor down the shaft of the second Death Star. Anakin died as he began his life: as a Jedi. This proves that Yoda was wrong and that the dark side is not something that will forever dominate a person, nor is it something that will consume fallen Jedi for good.

Yoda Was Always Wrong, Because Redemption Is At The Heart Of Star Wars Even outside of Anakin Skywalker's story, Yoda has been proven wrong. Star Wars has continuously told stories of redemption, in which various dark side characters have found their way back to the light. From early characters in the Skywalker saga such as Asajj Ventress and Quinlan Vos , dark side users have always been shown to not be consumed by it.

From these major and minor characters alike, it becomes evident that Star Wars has constantly told tales of redemption. While Yoda's warning certainly holds some merit, as traveling the path of the dark side can lead to much death and destruction despite eventual redemption as seen with Vader and Kylo, his words that dark side users will forever be consumed are incorrect. This is a story arc that is common in Star Wars, and will likely continue into the future of the franchise.
