According to The Telegraph, Pennington, who was 82, passed away on May 10, 2026. The actor is known for both his on-screen work and performing on stage. One of his more popular roles in film was Empire admiral Moff Tiaan Jerjerrod, who managed the construction of the second Death Star in Return of the Jedi. Aside from the Star Wars franchise, he also had a successful career in theater.
The actor has also appeared in several TV shows throughout his acting career. He has been featured in series such as Raised By Wolves, Footprints, Endeavour, Father Brown, The Escape Artist, Silent Witness, and Into the Storm. Pennington also took on the role of the iconic titular detective in the 1987 series, The Return of Sherlock Holmes. Pennington is incredibly well-established when it comes to theater.
He starred in several major plays, including Hamlet for the Royal Shakespeare Company. He was so dedicated to the production that he turned down a role in Meryl Streep's The French Lieutenant’s Woman, which was later nominated for five Oscars. More to come.. ,
