The 2023 Primetime Emmy nominations are in, and they represent a landmark for the Star Wars franchise.
Andor, the thriller centered on Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor, has been nominated for multiple Emmy awards, including Outstanding Drama, Outstanding Writing for "One Way Out," and OutstandingDirecting for "Rix Road." Obi-Wan Kenobi, the solo Obi-Wan project starring Ewan McGregor, has been nominated as Oustanding Limited Series.

The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars TV show, changed how Star Wars content is produced, and now Lucasfilm has become a recurrent contender in the Emmy Awards.
The impact of The Mandalorian on how Star Wars content is made is exemplified by Obi-Wan Kenobi, which was originally envisioned as a movie. After the failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story and the success of The Mandalorian, the Obi-Wan movie was reworked into an Obi-Wan limited series. Obi-Wan Kenobi felt like an extension of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, featuring Star Wars movie icons such as McGregor’s Obi-Wan and Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker.
Andor, on the other hand, was unlike anything Star Wars had ever done. Despite being a Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel, Andor had its own tone and was not focused on the broader Star Wars universe. Andor’s serious tone combined with spectacular writing and strong performances resulted in what is arguably Star Wars’ best TV show. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor’s Emmy nominations are very well deserved, and they continue Star Wars’ television legacy.
