SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In the first issue of The High Republic Adventures, Jedi Padawan Sav Malagán sneaks out of the Jedi Temple on Takodana to enjoy the night-life at Maz's castle, listening to the amazing stories told by a much younger Dexter Jettster Taking place hundreds of years before the dawn of the Clone Wars, Dex is still a prospector and is good friends with Maz. Along with the rest of Kanata's rag-tag crew, Sav agrees to join up on a mission to protect Takodana.

But after coming face-to-face with the explosive consequences of her actions, Sav begins to wonder where her loyalties lie: with the Jedi Order, or her new friends?
Each member of Maz's crew brings something to the table and has their own unique personality. Likewise, the addition of Sav is particularly interesting considering her conflicting obligations. As a Padawan, she is clearly out of bounds and is likely in a lot of trouble with the Jedi Order. However, her new friends and the promise of being a pirate may prove to be too tempting for her to return.
The reveal that Maz Kanata and Dex were friends hundreds of years before the Skywalker saga is a particularly cool connection. Both have helped the Jedi, with each of them playing key roles despite not being Force-sensitives themselves. Perhaps their friendship with the Jedi will even begin in earnest with Sav in this brand-new series. The full Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #2 releases January 11 from Dark Horse Comics.
