Taking place during the Empire's reign, Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord shows a darker side of the galaxy as Maul (voiced by Sam Witwer) hopes to build a crime syndicate and get revenge on those who betrayed him following the Clone Wars.
This storyline allows the show to become a crime drama, distinguishing itself from the rest of the franchise, especially as the local police officer, Lawson (Wagner Moura), becomes determined to catch Maul. Yet, Lawson and Maul have one thing in common: they want to avoid the attention of the Empire.
