A new Star Wars story is confirming that - between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the Force itself changed, all thanks to a daring attack on the Sith. Qi’ra, a major character from Solo: A Star Wars Story, has become a major threat to the Galactic Empire and the Sith Order in recent canon-continuity Star Wars comics.
Everyone from Emperor Palpatine to Luke Skywalker has been feeling the effects of her anti-Sith superweapon, which appear to be altering the Force itself, necessitating drastic action from Luke. However, as Darth Vader's powers surge out of control over in his own series, Luke's connection is growing spotty, leading him to seek a solution. Is Luke About to Construct His Green Lightsaber? Luke Skywalker intends to fix the damage done to the Force by using a Kyber crystal, which may explain how he replaces his current yellow-bladed lightsaber with his signature green-bladed weapon. Kyber crystals are conduits of the Force itself, and while Luke has made good use of his yellow-bladed weapon, he did not bond with the Kyber crystal inside of it. Perhaps Luke will deconstruct his weapon and use the yellow Kyber within it to restore the Force to normalcy, creating the perfect segue to the creation of his more famous green-bladed lightsaber. Alternatively, Star Wars: Revelations showed Luke holding green and red Kyber crystals - it may be the case that he has to seek out both to restore the Force to its prior state. The Star Wars Legends continuity depicts the creation of Luke’s lightsaber in Shadows of the Empire, but the creation of the iconic weapon’s canon counterpart has yet to be shown. As canon comics approach the events of Return of the Jedi, telling the new continuity’s version of this event will be exciting for readers.
