Disney is developing a bunch of different Star Wars movies, and it's only a matter of time before the main saga continues with Star Wars: Episode X.
Disney is developing a handful of Star Wars movies, and one of them is rumored to continue the mainline saga with Star Wars 10. While Lucasfilm has been releasing plenty of Star Wars content on Disney+ including The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor, there hasn’t been a theatrically released movie since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.
The movie is reportedly being developed as a standalone project. Lucasfilm’s previous strategy was to develop movies in threes packaged as trilogies, but the studio’s new tactic is to approach Star Wars movies one at a time. Still, despite the standalone nature of this movie, the hope is that it will be successful enough to launch sequels. While it takes place after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it might not be a direct continuation of the Skywalker Saga.
Star Wars 10 Release Date Disney has yet to officially confirm when Star Wars 10 will arrive in theaters, but there are two untitled Star Wars movies that are slated for December 2025 and December 2027. It’s possible that one of those movies will be Star Wars 10. The 2025 movie could be Episode X and the 2027 movie could be Episode XI. It’s also possible that neither of them is Star Wars 10, and they’re both standalone “Anthology” movies.
Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie: Taika Waititi, who has helmed episodes of The Mandalorian, will direct a standalone Star Wars movie that he’s co-writing with 1917’s Krysty Wilson-Cairns. Reportedly, this is now the project with the furthest development, and Waititi is possibly even set to star in the movie.
