Star Trek: Prodigy showrunners tease the return of more legacy characters in season 2. 'In Season 2 we're gonna see a lot more familiar faces.'
The showrunners of Star Trek: Prodigy have teased the appearance of more familiar faces in season 2. Star Trek: Prodigy is an animated television series that premiered in 2021, and is the first Star Trek series to be made for younger audiences. The show takes place five years after the end of Star Trek: Voyager, and follows a group of young aliens who come upon an abandoned Starfleet ship, the USS Protostar.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In a YouTube video posted to Paramount Plus, Star Trek: Prodigy showrunners Kevin and Dan Hageman tease more familiar faces appearing in season 2. Kevin teases that "In Season 2 we're gonna see a lot more familiar faces," and that viewers can expect "something much bigger." Dan also goes on to say that at the end of season 1, "Admiral Janeway has promised them a new ship, but not the Protostar.
With so many actors from across different series of Star Trek appearing in Star Trek: Prodigy, there are many opportunities for other familiar characters to return, even if their actors have since passed away. Of the Star Trek: The Original Series cast, William Shatner's Kirk and George Takei's Sulu could lend their voices Star Trek: Prodigy, and archival audio of DeForest Kelley's Bones and Walter Koenig's Chekov could similarly be used.
Considering that Star Trek is one of the largest sci-fi franchises in the world, there are plenty of legacy actors that could lend their voices to Star Trek: Prodigy. And with major characters like Kirk and Picard all making reappearances in other current Star Trek series, there's every possibility that the actors could lend their voices to the animated series as well.
