Captain Michael Burnham rides a starship's hull at warp in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, but other Starfleet Officers beat her to it by centuries.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Captain Michael Burnham rides a starship's hull at warp speed in a clip from Star Trek: Discovery season 5 released at San Diego Comic-Con, but Burnham really boldly went whether other Starfleet Officers have gone before. Hunting for "the greatest treasure in the known galaxy," Burnham confronts two new Discovery season 5 characters, Moll and L'ak , who then blow Michael into the vacuum of space.
Responding to a Tweet of a Screen Rant article about Star Trek: Discovery season 5's Burnham warp bubble feat, Star Trek: Prodigy executive producer Aaron J. Waltke noted that "Only the best spacewalk at warp!" Check out his Tweet below: In his Tweet, Aaron Waltke shared an image from the sensational Star Trek: Prodigy season 1, episode 8, "Mindwalk," where a body swapped Admiral Kathryn Janeway and Dal R'El also exited their respective starships, the USS Protostar and the USS Dauntless, and spacewalked in a warp bubble. In Star Trek's timeline, this happened in the late 24th century, about 800 years before Michael Burnham's spacewalk in Star Trek: Discovery season 5.
Star Trek: Enterprise Had The First Warp Bubble Spacewalk However, as Aaron J. Waltke correctly pointed out in a follow-up Tweet, the first instance in Star Trek of a Starfleet Officer space walking inside a warp bubble was in the Star Trek: Enterprise season 4 episode, "Divergence." At the start of that action-packed hour, Commander Trip Tucker climbed up a cable connecting the NX-01 Enterprise and the NX-02 Columbia while both starships were traveling at warp speed.
None of this is meant to steal Captain Burnham or Star Trek: Discovery's thunder, however. In Burnham's defense, she may have been aware of Trip Tucker's warp bubble feat in the 22nd century, which could have given her the confidence to ride Moll and L'ak's ship at warp.
