A developer wants to replace the former Sunset magazine campus at 80 Willow Road with four buildings, one taller than the tower, which would contain a hotel, apartments, stores and offices.
“While Stanford is still refusing to offer a living wage, SGWU has made progress on negotiations around other key benefits, including support for healthcare costs, immigration expenses for international workers, and, most recently, publishing planned on-campus rent increases for the duration of the proposed contract,” the union said. “This would allow SGWU’s Bargaining Committee to tie wage increases to the cost of on-campus housing.
“We respect UE-SGWU’s right to hold its strike authorization vote, but we hope the union will focus on progress at the negotiating table so that graduate workers can realize the benefits of a contract agreement in a timely way,” Martinez said.University spokesperson Dee Mostofi separately told this news organization that Stanford is prepared to continue classes if the strike goes ahead on Tuesday.
