Stana Katic
After 10 years, Stana Katic has officially set her perfect Castle replacement series. The actor burst into mainstream American popularity by co-heading the hit ABC series which ran from 2009 to 2016. Starring alongside Nathan Fillion as Castle's titular character — a successful thriller novelist who was struggling creatively, Katic played Kate Beckett — an NYPD detective who became his muse.
Subsequently, the pair fell in love, balancing romance and solving crimes. While Fillion didn't waste time returning to ABC's procedural sandbox with The Rookie, Katic has taken a deserved break from network TV. Since Castle's ending in 2016, she has only appeared in a couple of projects, starting with Amazon Prime Video's Absentia, where she played a former FBI agent who resurfaced 6 years after she was presumed dead. The show ran for 3 seasons. In 2024, Katic switched things up from her usual hero roles by playing the killer in Murder In A Small Town in a one-time guesting stint. Stana Katic Is Set To Spearhead An FBI Show 10 Years After Castle Now, Katic is set to tackle a new law enforcement organization, playing a CIA officer in Entangled . The project reunites the actor with Will Pascoe, who served as an executive producer and showrunner in Absentia season 3. Jeff Frost developed the new show through his Bristol Circle Entertainment production company. Inspired by the real-life story of CIA intelligence officers Meredith and Freddie Woodruff, Entangled will see Katic play the female lead opposite Jim Sullivan. The Woodruffs were among the very first husband and wife undercovers from the agency. No official release date has been set for Entangled, but based on its preliminary details, it sounds like Katic's perfect Castle replacement. As gripping as Absentia was, it was far too dark at times. Meanwhile, the aspect of romance at the center of Entangled immediately makes it more similar to Castle. Granted that the situation is different, and it's almost likely that it is gorier and more brutal, but that focal element is at least present in Katic's new show. Can A Castle Revival Ever Happen? In the last decade, revivals, reboots, and spinoffs have become the norm in Hollywood. It has allowed studios and production companies to tap into established and well-known properties despite many of them wrapping up years ago. Technically, anything is possible, but the chances of a Castle revival happening in the near future are very slim. For starters, Fillion is busy with The Rookie, which is a network show, meaning its production schedule is quite rigorous. Katic starting production with Entangled will make things trickier, even if there was an active attempt at bringing back the hit 2010 procedural. Secondly, much has been said about the tension behind-the-scenes in Castle. There were reports that Fillion and Katic were having issues with each other. Assuming that it's actually the truth, it would be very difficult to convince them to return for a revival, and the project can't be done if they aren't both involved.
