Players from San Diego State, USD and UC San Diego aren’t eligible unless they played for a San Diego high school.
Here is a look at how Team San Diego would shape up, position by position. The World Baseball Classic begins this week:played 111 games for the Rockies last season, hitting .238 with 7 home runs, 20 doubles and 28 RBIs. So will catcher, who played at Torrey Pines and USC. Dickerson has played in 339 big-league games with the Padres, Giants and Braves and has 40 homers and 132 RBIs. A left-handed hitter, he’s currently a free agent.
Stubbs, also a left-handed hitter, has played in 97 big-league games with the Astros and Phillies. He projects as the No. 2 catcher in Philadelphia. Israel is in Pool D with Puerto Rico, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Israel opens play Sunday in Miami against Nicaragua.played at La Jolla Country Day and Stanford. He will play for Team Korea. He has played in 459 big league games with the Cardinals with 40 homers and 175 RBIs. Korea is in Pool C with Australia, China, Japan, Czechia. Korea opens play Thursday against Australia in Japan.played at San Diego State. He’ll play for Team Mexico.
