Abrams, a two-time failed candidate for governor of Georgia, told MSNBC host Chris Hayes she is "honored" to have spent time with Carter, saying the former president "confronted his mistakes" and "remade" Democratic politics. Hayes then asked Abrams to respond to a belief that "decency is for losers," comparing Americans' perceptions of both Carter and Trump.
"We keep misremembering what happened in November," she said. "Yes, Donald Trump won the election, but this wasn't a landslide. It was an evenly divided nation, he got more people, but this was not this seismic shift where 57, 58% of America said no."
