11 Bergen Catholic to win 34-27 and advance into Saturday’s semifinals of the second annual event. The Marauders will meet the host school in No. 7 Christian Brothers at 1:30 p.m. St. Peter’s Prep and Bergen Catholic were knotted at 27-27 through 12 bouts after the Crusaders rattled off 21 unanswered in four bouts. Strong closing efforts from freshman 113-pounder Rob Rodriguez and junior 120-pounder Anthony Borrometi stopped the bleeding and put a bow on the match. Rodriguez posted a 14-3 major decision win over freshman Marcos Asan and Borrometi took a 4-0 decision over freshman Micah Loudermilk. “That was a team effort and I told the team before the match it was going to be a team effort,” St. Peter’s Prep head coach Anthony Verdi said. “This is a really good Bergen Catholic team. They’re miles ahead of where they were last year. This shows that we have some balance.” Rodriguez is a running back for the Marauders during football season, but the takedown clinic he put on against the Beast of the East quarterfinalist in Asan might make Rich Hansen III think about using him as a linebacker next fall.
