Thousand Oak’s goal line stand in final seconds allows it to advance in Division 4 playoffs.
SANTA FE SPRINGS – After losing its Angelus League title game in heartbreaking fashion last week to Cathedral, the St. Paul football team looked to put its deflating loss behind as it took on Thousand Oaks in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 4 playoffs on Friday.
Swordsmen quarterback Gabriel Castaneda ran for a team-high 76 yards and completed 11 of 28 passes for 123 yards.“Our quarterback was banged up. He battled through it and made plays when he had to,” Moschetti said. “ played well defensively. Couldn’t get into a rhythm all night offensively,” Moschetti said. “Between personal fouls, turnovers, and penalties, you’re not gonna win a game.”
The Lancers got inside the red zone for a second time, but disaster struck again for the Thousand Oaks offense as Lancers’ quarterback Jackson Taylor threw an interception to Josiah Laffere.Taylor and the Thousand Oaks offense put it all together and finished a drive with an 18-yard touchdown strike from Taylor to Hayden Vercher with 9:25 left in the second quarter.
St. Paul kicker Jesse Riperto nailed a 40-yard field goal as time expired to send the Swordsmen into the half with a 10-7 lead.
