MILESTONE WIN: St. Luke's coach Mike Szymanski records 700th career victory in no-hit win over Clarke County
) - St. Luke’s baseball head coach Mike Szymanski recorded his 700th career win Wednesday afternoon as his team defeated Clarke County 11-0 in five innings to open area play.Szymanski’s milestone comes in his 37th season as a head coach, spanning 1,093 games.
He is in his ninth year at St. Luke’s after serving 28 years as head coach at Satsuma. He was inducted into the Alabama Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2013. His teams have produced 124 college scholarships, won 19 area championships, finished as runner-up seven times and captured one state championship.“It’s awesome, but I don’t want to take all the credit,” Szymanski said. “You know, we came up short last year. I was seven games short, and this team promised me they’d get seven wins, and right now we’re 7-7, but better than that, we’re 1-0, in the conference. I’ve got a lot of friends here.
