Berikutan bencana gempa bumi yang melanda Syria dan Turki pada Februari 6, Sri Paus Fransiskus berulang kali memohon sokongan konkrit dan solidariti dari masyarakat antarabangsa, agar membantu mengurangi pende-ritaan para mangsa.

Semasa doa Angelus, pada Februari 12 lalu, Sri Paus Fransiskus mengatakan bantuan amal kepausan disalurkan oleh Dikasteri untuk Amal Kebajikan yang sekarang ini sedang diagih-agihkan kepada mereka yang memerlukan. “Situasi di Aleppo hari ini sangat menyedihkan. Ini adalah bencana besar. Kami dikelilingi oleh kekacauan dan kehancuran,” kata Uskup Mounir Saccal, direktor nasional PMS di Syria dan Vikaris Jeneral Gereja Katolik Siro di Aleppo.
