Seong Gi-hun, aka Player 456, is in front of the masked men from Squid Game
Squid Game season 1's finale packs in many twists for Player 456, aka Seong Gi-hun, but season 2 appears to be reversing one of the most shocking changes. The hit Korean show Squid Game took the world by storm because of its brutal, unflinching exploration of serious issues through a dystopian concept.
Unsurprisingly, Netflix quickly picked up Squid Game season 2 and even expanded on the franchise with a reality TV game show and a mobile game called Squid Game: Unleashed coming to the Netflix app at the same time as the second season. Details about the second season have been relatively scarce, with Netflix's official description hinting that Seong Gi-hun might be playing the games again. However, Geeked Week 2024 gave fans a much-anticipated update, providing the world with a special teaser trailer. The clips in the teaser promised new games and players, as well as a massive change for Player 456. Squid Game season 2 seems to be reversing one of the biggest parts of the finale. Player 456 Doesn't Have His Red Hair In Squid Game Season 2 Seong Gi-Hun Has Short Black Hair In The Squid Game Season 2 Teaser Trailer A major reveal in the Geeked Week special teaser for Squid Game season 2 is the fact that Seong Gi-hun cut his hair and changed his hair back to black . At the end of Squid Game season 1, Gi-hun dyes his hair red, which is a significant change that symbolizes the deep-seated rage that the character feels toward his trauma. Player 456 harbors righteous anger towards the people responsible for the games and wants to shut them down at any cost. He even sacrifices the chance to see his daughter so that he can take back his power and control by ending the deadly competition, a choice that fits perfectly with Gi-hun dying his hair red. It’s almost a stereotype at this point that people going through big emotions drastically change their hair. Those same emotions could lead him to make other significant life decisions as well. What Gi-Hun's Hair Change Really Means For Squid Game Season 2 Player 456 Reverting His Hair Color Could Point To His Mental State Going Into Squid Game Season 2 Close Though the Squid Game season 2 teaser does not explain why or when exactly he changes his hair back, the change foreshadows a much sadder path for the main character of Squid Game. He might have shifted from anger to hopelessness, returning to the emotions that led him to join the games in the first place. If he dyed his hair red to take control of his life again, he might feel out of control as he tries to take down the games. Related I Love Squid Game, But I'm Glad Season 4 Isn't Happening As much as I love Netflix's Squid Game, I am glad that the show is ending its run with its third installment and that a season 4 is not in the books. 1 Alternatively, in a more positive reading of the situation, he might have changed his hair back to be less noticeable as he tries to infiltrate the games and take them down. Ultimately, audiences will have to wait until Squid Game season 2 comes out on December 26 to know the exact cause of Seong Gi-hun reversing his big change from the finale.
