Josh Primo of the Spurs reacts to scoring during the first quarter against the Philadelphia 76ers at Wells Fargo Center on Jan. 7, 2022 in Philadelphia,In the immediate aftermath of the Spurs’ season-ending loss at New Orleans last month, coach Gregg Popovich was in no mood to wax poetic about the importance of the team’s upcoming draft.

Even if the drawing goes to chalk and the Spurs end up with the ninth slot — and there is a 50.7 percent chance of that outcome — it would mark their first top 10 selection since Tim Duncan changed the franchise as the No. 1 pick in 1997.
The draft slot the Spurs cement Tuesday will join two other first-round picks the team acquired in deals triggered around the February trade deadline — the 20th selection acquired from Toronto and the 25th selection belonging to Boston.
