Spurs great George 'The Iceman' Gervin recently pulled his own rookie card from an original pack of Topps 1974 Basketball trading cards.
There’s nothing like scoring a rookie card of an NBA legend. Especially when you’re the legend on the card. Spurs great George “ The Iceman ” Gervin did just that when he ripped open an original pack of Topps 1974 Basketball trading cards to find his first NBA card from 50 years ago. Topps and Fanatics shared the moment on social media in early December, though it's now getting a rebound of attention.
Spurs great George Gervin’s 1978 Nike poster made the Iceman iconic The video features the 72-year-old Hall of Famer thumbing through a pack, cracked stick of gum and all, as he lays down cards that include notable names such as Lakers great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a pre-coaching days Mike D'Antoni. Then Gervin turns over a card to see his rookie-self airing to the hoop in his away game black uniform. “Uh-oh! That’s me,” Gervin said in the clip.
