Backup big man Dominick Barlow had a season-high 19 points to help the shorthanded San Antonio Spurs stun Golden State on Saturday
Late Saturday night in San Francisco, Spurs forward Dominick Barlow found himself in a place he had never been before. He had been ushered an interview room in the catacombs of the Chase Center, inquisitive reporters and whirring cameras staring back at him. Before Barlow could answer questions about his breakout performance in the Spurs’ shorthanded 123-116 victory at Golden State, the relatively anonymous 20-year-old lobbed a question of his own.
When Spurs contend again, not all will make the cut He scored a season-high 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds, logged four assists, a block and a steal and was generally omnipresent in his 30-minute stint off the bench. With Wembanyama out and Zach Collins elevated to the starting lineup, Barlow knew he would be due minutes against the Warriors. His approach was simple enough. “I feel like I approach it as a basketball player, just come in and be ready to hoop,” Barlow said.
