Spurs claim guard Julian Champagnie off waivers to fill two-way slot
Guard Julian Champagnie, who the Spurs have claimed off waivers, in action last season at St. John's.SALT LAKE CITY - The Spurs have claimed recently waived Philadelphia 76ers guard Julian Champagnie to fill their open two-way slot, the team announced Thursday.
The slot opened up earlier this week when the Spurs converted center Charles Bassey's two-way deal to a standard NBA contract.Champagnie played in just two games for the Sixers. He spent most of the season in the G League with the Delaware Blue Coats. The 6-foot-8, 220-pound Champagnie joined Philadelphia as an undrafted free agent last summer. As a junior last season with St. John's, he averaged 19.6 points with 6.6 rebounds and 2.0 assist while shooting just 41 percent .
In 18 G League games, the 21-year-old Brooklyn native averaged 28.7 minutes, 14.3 points on 41.9 percent shooting , 5.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists.
