SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio - The Springfield Township Police Department shared recognition to its detective bureau on social media Sunday morning involving a theft case. In December 2025 , officers received a report that a vulnerable adult ’s bank account s had been accessed without authorization, resulting in approximately $38,000 in financial loss.
According to police, detectives immediately began an investigation that involved reviewing financial records, coordinating with banking institutions, conducting interviews and obtaining critical evidence to establish what occurred. Detectives said they were able to identify the person responsible as 56-year-old Nicole E. Vaughn, of Akron, with documentation of the unauthorized transactions and obtained her confession.The case was presented to the prosecutor, police said, who authorized multiple felony charges that include forgery, telecommunications fraud and theft, with enhancements due to the victim’s age.Springfield Township Police said this case highlights the commitment of the detective bureau to protecting vulnerable members of the community and holding offenders accountable.
