Avalanche danger remains considerable through Turnagain Pass, as large and dangerous avalanches continue
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Despite the quieter weather, avalanche danger continues to remain dangerous across Southcentral . An unpredictable weak layer remains buried two to three feet deep, with the likelihood that humans could trigger additional large avalanches. The springtime warmth will stay with us this week, keeping avalanche conditions on the higher side, with unsettled weather in the Gulf of Alaska .
Expect coastal activity to stick around this week, with some ample dry time. Inland areas of Southcentral will stay dry beyond tomorrow morning, with a mix of sun and clouds carrying us through the week.A winter weather advisory remains in effect through this afternoon for the Klondike Highway above 1000 feet. Three to five inches of snow is expected here, while the rest of the Southeast sees rain showers.
Continued cold is gripping western parts of the state, where temperatures today will remain in the single digits. It’s not until you get into the Western Interior, until temperatures warm well into the 10s and 20s. While some sunshine will stick around for coastal regions, some light snow showers continue for areas of Western Alaska. The heaviest snow fell over the last few days, with activity set to lighten up or weaken beyond today.
Seward/Lost Lake: Considerable avalanche danger remains, with a weak layer buried two to three feet deep. This will likely linger for the foreseeable future, with the Chugach Avalanche Center stating that many human-triggered avalanches that are occurring have many tracks.
