Nelson Cruz hits first home run in Padres uniform; Trent Grisham, Tim Lopes continue to hit early in spring training
Nick Martinez was so efficient in his second Cactus League start that he went one more inning than expected. Martinez got through three innings in 28 pitches before throwing 20 more pitches in the fourth. He has allowed four hits, walked one and struck out eight in six innings this spring. Martinez will make one more start before joining the United States team for the World Baseball Classic.
… Craig Stammen relieved Weathers with a runner on first base, and his second pitch induced a double-play grounder that was the game’s final play.The Rangers had split-squad games Wednesday, and former Padres manager Bruce Bochy stayed in Surprise to manage his new team there. So the Rangers were managed in Peoria by former Padres player Will Venable, now Texas’ associate manager.

Manny Machado, Padres Finalize $350M, 11-Year ContractAll-Star slugger Manny Machado and the San Diego Padres have finalized a $350 million, 11-year contract, the fourth-largest in baseball history.
