‘It's not enough to make up for the hundreds and hundreds of extra pounds families need to find a year’
Experts have criticised yesterday's spring statement announcement, urging the government to do more for families, who they say need help now.
Doubling of the Household Support Fund – used to provide one-off grants to families for financial emergenciesHowever, experts say these measures don't go far enough and many families will be worse off than before. She said: 'In the midst of the biggest wages and bills crisis in living memory, Rishi Sunak's statement has failed families. We did not get the urgent help with soaring bills that they need.
While Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis warned the mini-budget was ‘not going to lift that many out of the mire’.'The problem with the spring statement isn’t that it took money away from people, it’s that it handed far more back to the better off. 'And neither measure is close to enough to make up for the hundreds and hundreds of extra pounds a year families need to find just to cover higher energy, food and petrol bills.'While the rise in the National Insurance means those earning up to around $35k may see a fall in their National Insurance contributions, experts say not enough is being done to help families on low incomes.
