Business officials are in favor of the increased police presence in Pier Park. But think it's causing a major impact financially.
Some businesses are being impacted by the perceived need for safety, but officials maintain that is their number one priority.That is partly due to the age of visitors to our area. Panama City Beach officials have taken action because of teenagers’ reckless nature.
However, law enforcement agencies around Bay County have found a method they believe has worked and will continue to implement it over the weekend. They say the new approach is working. The Special Event Zones that went into effect last weekend are back. In these zones, police power increases- double traffic fines and possible vehicle impoundment. Some businesses in the area say they have struggled with these initiatives since they have taken effect. “The police presence has made many families here a bit hesitant to come to the pier park area,” said Sean Palamarczuk, the General Manager of Angry Tuna. “I think they are out here for a good cause, but they are deterring our families and good-paying spring breakers to a different area to migrate to this year.” Palamarczuk and other business officials in Pier Park are in favor of the increased police presence, but they say it’s having a major impact on their finances.A nice weekend with cool mornings, sunshine, and perfect festival weather
