A Houston business complex and self-storage units have become a hotspot for crime, with reports of burglaries, squatting, and theft. Local business owners and residents express concern for their safety and the impact on their livelihoods.
The Houston Police Department's Differential Response Team is investigating the crimes at the business complex and self-storage units at 9025 Ruland Road in Spring Branch . Jordan Leason, Owner of Houston Strength, says he had no issues with his gym location for seven years, but things changed a few months ago when people started living in some of the storage units. He says his staff doesn't feel comfortable coming to work and he doesn't feel safe at night.
Leason says he has to call the police daily due to the ongoing issues. Michael Fuqua, who has had a storage unit at 9025 Ruland for a decade, found a crime scene when he visited his unit on Monday. A burglar gained entry through an adjacent unit and stole firearms and other valuables. Fuqua feels violated and says he never thought something like this would happen in his neighborhood. Ahmed Raghe, Owner of Motor Village Realty, says people living in the storage units are driving away business by stripping cars and stealing parts.
