Spring Branch Storage Unit Crime Wave Raises Concerns

Crimes at a Spring Branch storage unit complex are raising concerns among nearby business owners and residents. Reports of burglary, vandalism, and unsanitary living conditions have prompted calls for increased security.

The Houston Police Department's Differential Response Team is investigating crimes at the business complex and self- storage units at 9025 Ruland Road in Spring Branch . Jordan Leason, Owner of Houston Strength, says he had no issues with his gym location for seven years, but that changed a few months ago when people started living in some of the storage units . He says his staff doesn't feel comfortable coming to work and he doesn't feel safe at night.

He claims the occupants are engaging in unsanitary practices and the area smells. Leason says he has to call the police daily.Michael Fuqua says he's had a storage unit at 9025 Ruland for a decade. When he came for the first time in a while on Monday, he says he uncovered a crime. A burglar gained entry through an adjacent unit and stole firearms and other valuables. He feels violated and says he never thought anything like this would happen in his neighborhood.Ahmed Raghe, Owner of Motor Village Realty, says people living in the storage units are driving away business by stripping cars and stealing parts. After several calls and an email, 10 Federal Storage Regional Director Tom Alexander said he would get back with a response in a day or two
