.Spotify unveils 'Lite' version of app in markets with limited connectivity
Looking to boost accessibility in potentially less-connected corners of the globe, Spotify on Tuesday released Lite, a "small, fast, and simplified" version of its industry leading streaming app.
"Spotify Lite was built from the ground up based on user feedback from around the world, allowing millions more to enjoy the world’s best music experience -- especially in areas with limited bandwidth and phone storage," saidAndroid users in 36 markets across the Americas, Asia, Middle East and Africa are free to download the app from the Google Play Store.
Spotify Lite comes with the ability to set data limits and get a notification if you reach it. The Lite version also lets you easily clear your cache to free up storage. The app can be used alongside or independently from the main Spotify app -- useful for users who'll be traveling between regions with varied levels of network connectivity.
The Lite version is currently available for Android users running version 4.3 or higher in Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, Oman, Jordan, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, South Africa, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and India.
