Spotify curator & executive Mike Biggane departing for Universal Music Group

, Spotify’s head of global curation strategy, is leaving the streaming service for Universal Music Group , has learned. According to a source, Biggane is departing Spotify, where he will remain for another month, under good terms in pursuit of a better offer. Biggane has worked at Spotify since 2014, when he was hired as the company’s head of pop programming. Four years later he was promoted to head of global groups. He was named to his current position in January.
During his tenure at Spotify, Biggane has personally overseen a number of the service’s most influential playlists, including New Music Friday and Today’s Top Hits, which currently boasts over 23.7 million followers. Along with a number of other streaming curators, he was named one of the music industry’s “new gatekeepers” by thePrior to his work at Spotify, Biggane served as director of operations at the predictive song research and music testing company HitPredictor.
