ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Ship Creek has been closed to all sport fishing through Sept. 30, according to the Department of Fish & Game.after poor silver salmon runs were seen in the stream near Downtown Anchorage as recently as Monday, and was done in"favor of protecting coho salmon and future fishing opportunities,” according to Fish and Game.
The closure will begin Saturday and end at the end of day on Monday, Sept. 30, and will affect the creek from the mouth to a cable 100 feet downstream of the Chugach Power Plant Dam.Area Management Biologist Brittany Blain-Roth was quoted in the release saying that only 181 silver salmon were counted in the creek on Aug. 19, much lower than the usual 800 or so that come through in the same time period.
