Lynnae, a 38-year-old in Brookline, Massachusetts, has used spironolactone to manage painful cystic acne for the past decade. Barbieri, former dermatology chief resident at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, says. "It may even be associated with the development of inflammatory bowel disease, breast cancer, and colon cancer," he says.
