“This is a curious decision that we’re not sure is in the best interest of consumers,' a consumer advocate said.
jets taking off from Newark Liberty International Airport after federal officials reassigned 16 runway slots to the Florida-based airline late Tuesday.
Spirit and JetBlue Airways each recently applied for all 16 of the timings held by Southwest, and Alaska Airlines applied for four. “DOT said this move would boost competition and cut costs for flyers, but there’s more to competition than just cost. The cost of a flight doesn’t mean much if it doesn’t get you there,” she added.
A Spirit spokesman said the airline did better in June and cited USDOT reports that said Spirit ranked better than April numbers in March and February. In March, almost 60% of Spirit’s 538 arrivals at Newark were on time. All arriving flights at Newark had a 70% on time rate in March, according to USDOT.
“We plan to maintain our existing routes, which have grown over the past couple of years, and we’ll share details for new service additions at a later time,” he said. “These reporting requirements will enable the department to monitor Spirit’s ability to deliver on its customer commitment and permit the department to better quantify the financial impact of operational disruptions on travelers,” federal transportation officials said in a statement.“Spirit is communicating with our federal regulatory agencies, and we follow all applicable laws, regulations and requirements,” Hofmeyer said.

Used VERY RARE MAZDA RX-7 2003 Spirit R Type A for saleVERY RARE *Spirit R Model* Type A ! This was the last of the RX7’s and is the most sought after and most definitely the very most desirable of them all! There were only 1500 produced and this special car is Number 847 of 1500! Mazda said this car would be special and indeed it is, they included, but did not limit the components to Bilstein Suspension, Kevlar RECARO seats, forged BBS Wheels, adjustable Rear Wing etc. everything about this car is so right, no wonder they are so sought after. This particular model, the Spirit R, is made for the driver’s driver and was produced only for the Japanese market and certainly acquitted itself exceptionally well against the competition and in fact, was arguably more than a match for anything Porsche was creating in those same years. Powered by the renowned 13B Rotary engine, (what else?), this goes to show that the engineers at Mazda’s Yokohama R&D centre had complete faith in the Rotary concept. The condition of this car we believe, is second to none with low mileage, it oozes quality and charm and will certainly impress those who care to take a closer look, let alone drive this beauty, the Spirit R really is a very rare and highly sought after performance car desired by many, but only destined for the few, not to mention an investment for the canny!
