The rights for This Is Spinal Tap and the forthcoming sequel, Spinal Tap II, are going up for sale at the Cannes Film Festival. This Is Spinal Tap is a 1984 mockumentary about the fictional band Spinal Tap, which is made up of three members: David St. Hubbins , Nigel Tufnel , and Derek Smalls . Rob Reiner directed the film, which he cowrote with the actors playing the band, and he also played Marty DiBergi, the filmmaker chronicling their tour.
In a shocking recent announcement, a sequel to This Is Spinal Tap, called Spinal Tap II, was said to be in development with Reiner and the original cast returning. Now, as reported by Deadline, the rights for This Is Spinal Tap and Spinal Tap II will be up for sale at the Cannes Film Festival, which takes place from May 17 through the 28.
