Nicolas Cage suited up as Spider-Noir
Spider-Noir's trailer proves that Marvel's future is taking the right lessons from its past - and from one show in particular. With the MCU timeline having largely had a monopoly on live-action Spider-Man releases in the past decade or so, the prospect of another live-action rendition of the hero making their debut shortly is a decidedly exciting one.
This is also exciting in the sense that Spider-Noir offers another chance for a different variant of the hero to get their own story on-screen, adding to a wide array of fascinating different takes on Spider-Man and the hero's expansive mythos. Combined with the fact that the upcoming Spider-Noir show seems to mirror the approach taken with one of Marvel's most popular recent shows, and there's plenty of reason to be invested in what comes next for the impending series. Spider-Noir's New Trailer Shows How It's Set To Mirror All The Best Parts Of Daredevil: Born Again Spider-Noir's trailer provides one of the best looks so far at what to expect from the upcoming superhero show, delving into its Noir setting and alternate world, and the more gritty attitude of its central hero, who is played by Nicolas Cage. The Spider-Noir trailer emphasizes how the show will be a departure from the conventional tone and approach we've traditionally seen in Spider-Man shows, both in that it's set to focus on a very different alternate universe from the central Marvel world we're used to - adapting instead the bleaker mythos of Spider-Man Noir - and in that its hero and story are subsequently also darker and more grounded-seeming as a result. Given Marvel's largely more cheerful and child-friendly tone when it comes to the overarching roster of shows that adapt the comic franchise on-screen, it's interesting to note Spider-Noir's approach comes hot on the heel of Daredevil: Born Again bringing a more mature look at this kind of series into the modern day, which kicked off the MCU delving into this kind of territory for its releases. Much like the MCU show, Spider-Noir also takes on a gritty city-based vigilante story, and already seems set to focus on its protagonist facing off against a corrupt underworld filled with criminals and supervillains who are, broadly speaking, more grounded than the conventional Marvel fare - all while having its jaded but well-intentioned protagonist solve mysteries and fight crime despite the odds being stacked against him. Ultimately, given the immense success Daredevil: Born Again season 1 enjoyed, the fact the Spider-Noir trailer suggests the upcoming Marvel show will most closely resemble Born Again out of all of Marvel's recent shows certainly bodes well for the series. Spider-Noir Is The Exact Spider-Man Show That Marvel Needs Spider-Man's show history contains some dazzling examples of what the superhero genre is capable of when it comes to adapting Marvel's world and lore on-screen, but this past is one that has unsurprisingly tended to veer a little more family-friendly overall. While this has still led to many solid shows, this track record has created a proverbial gap in the market, since Spider-Man's mythos contains many more serious and mature stories and themes that have only really been explored in a reduced capacity, thanks to the natural limitations that come with making stories appropriate for younger viewers. As such, Spider-Noir seems perfectly timed in more than one way, since it's able to capitalize on the success of Daredevil: Born Again by being a similar series conceptually, while also appealing to audiences as a show that takes the Spider-Man mantle and narrative in a very different direction, and provides a truly fresh look at how Spider-Man can be explored on-screen.
