Jacob Batalon has frequently teased a villainous turn for the MCU's Ned Leeds - and he's sorry 👀😅 'I stupidly just continued with the story as if like I knew what was going to happen... I'm sorry for all the misinformation...'
Jacob Batalon, who recently starred in Spider-Man: No Way Home as Ned Leeds, apologizes for teasing a potential Hobgoblin future for his character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ned first appeared in the 2017 film Spider-Man: Homecoming as Peter Parker's best friend, who soon finds out about Peter's secret identity as Spider-Man and becomes the hero's "guy in the chair.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In Spider-Man: No Way Home, various teases about Ned's possible future as a villain caught the eyes of viewers. In particular, Ned asked Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man whether he had a best friend, to which he responded with the details of his history with Harry, which involved Harry trying to kill him and then dying in his arms. Ned was clearly shaken by the interaction and promised his Peter he wouldn't turn against him.
You know, I'd just like to say, I'm really sorry, everyone. I did this really stupid thing back in 2016 and mentioned it in an interview. And then I stupidly just continued with the story as if like I knew what was going to happen. And now everyone is talking about it. And I just—I'm sorry for all the misinformation...
Could The MCU Ever Introduce The Hobgoblin? In his apology, Batalon acknowledges he has been teasing a Hobgoblin run since the marketing for Spider-Man: Homecoming, despite not actually knowing what the plans were for his character. Given the MCU's secretive nature when it comes to plot and character details, it's likely that most Spider-Man fans didn't take his comments too seriously, making his apology a fun nod to the teases he has offered over the years.
However, Ned's memory loss could be the perfect opportunity to build him into a comic-accurate version of Leeds, which would involve him and Peter both being employed in the same place and an unsuspecting Ned being brainwashed. The MCU could also introduce a variant of Ned from a different universe to hunt Peter down as the Hobgoblin.
