Spencer Pratt and his sister, Stephanie Pratt, may share a last name, but like most siblings, they don’t always see eye to eye. From navigating reality TV fame on MTV’s The Hills to public feuds and reconciliations, their relationship has gone through many ups and downs through the years.
Although they are brother and sister, they have often seen the world through a very different lens as highlighted by Stephanie’s recent commentary against his bid to become the mayor of Los Angeles. Stephanie didn’t mince words in a series of posts she shared via X on February 14, 2026, suggesting that Spencer was only running because he was “trying to stay famous and sell his memoir.” Spencer’s memoir, The Guy You Loved To Hate: Confessions From A Reality TV Villain, hit shelves in January 2026. Stephanie Pratt and Spencer Pratt were often at odds while filming the original MTV reality show, which aired from May 2006 to July 2010, giving viewers a glance at their tumultuous dynamic. . One infamous scene from season 6, during episode 2, titled “Ghost from the Past,” showed Stephanie approaching her older brother and his wife, Heidi Montag. When she walked up to greet him and got a cold response, she teared up. Spencer was instantly frustrated and told her that she was constantly starting drama. “That's why you're not in my life, you crazy bitch, because you come to barbecues and just start crying,” he yelled. “I was just enjoying myself with my wife and I get crying sisters in front of me.” Spencer recently confirmed that the fight was “real” and not scripted during his interview on the “We Need to Talk” podcast, which took place on January 27, 2026. He explained that his outburst had a lot to do with things happening within their family behind the scenes, including with their mother. “There's so much that leads to that moment,” Spencer explained to podcast host Paul Carrick Brunson. “That's the problem with being siblings. When somebody does something to your parents and then they forgive and I don't.”“In a perfect world, my sister wouldn't have been on the show,” Spencer said, revealing he wished things could have been different. “I didn't want her on the show,” he added. Spencer noted that he ultimately didn't have a choice as “it wasn't my show.”Stephanie Pratt reflected on growing up alongside Spencer Pratt in Malibu and Pacific Palisades, noting it was the “ultimate relaxing beach childhood” in her 2015 memoir, Made in Reality. “Not much has changed with my brother since we were kids,” Stephanie, who now spends most of her time in London, wrote, describing Spencer as a “charismatic child.” “There was never a dull moment … He always had tons of friends and there was a lot of laughter around him. He really knew from day one how to love life,” the MTV alum fondly recalled, revealing she looked up to him. “I always just thought he was so cool, so much fun,” Stephanie wrote in one excerpt from her book. “Even if he was playing pranks on me...It was nonstop shenanigans, nonstop winding my parents up and it was always the best fun to be on his side watching the mayhem take place.” She said that as they got older, Spencer seemed to have it all figured out while she struggled with her mental health and dabbled with drugs. “He didn't have to get a sensible job because he hadn't messed up by being imperfect like me. It seemed so unfair. Why should I be punished for being depressed, and he rewarded for being a happier person anyway?” Stephanie wrote, noting that she was making an effort to carve out her own path in life.Spencer Pratt and his wife, Heidi Montag, had their fair share of haters over the years, but Stephanie was outspoken about her support of the couple leading up to their wedding. She offered to officiate their nuptials after the pair eloped in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in November 2008. Months later, the couple held a romantic ceremony for friends and family in Pasadena, California, in April 2009. “I adored Heidi from the minute I met her,” Stephanie wrote in her memoir. “She is the sweetest person I have ever met.” She also said that it was clear that Spencer was an acquired taste for some people, adding, “Sometimes he deserves it, and sometimes he just comes across people who have made their mind up about him long before meeting him because of things he has said or done in the media.” In 2017, Stephanie hinted at the distance in their relationship when she claimed to have no idea her brother and sister-in-law were expecting. She told OK! that she never got the memo ahead of Us Weekly exclusively breaking the news that Spencer and Montag would be welcoming their first child together. “I had no idea Heidi was pregnant,” Stephanie said. “Spencer and Heidi tend to do things in their own way. I’m really happy for them both.” By 2019, she took a firm stance against Montag and claimed that “no one knows the real Heidi,” insinuating that Montag caused a wedge between her and her brother. “Before the new Hills, the Beginnings, my mom, brother and I all sat down and we said, ‘We will not let this ruin our family again.’ I'm done. I don't care,” Stephanie said on her “Pratt Cast” podcast that April, calling them “the most toxic people” she had ever met. “I'm not protecting them anymore.” Montag addressed the claims that same year while not calling out Stephanie by name. “I had a lot of on-Hills drama with a family member and that was very challenging and heartbreaking,” Montag said on her and Spencer’s “Make Speidi Famous Again” podcast at the time. “I felt like there were some very below-the-belt, nasty comments that weren’t even true.”“There were times that I didn’t want to be on , that it was too much,” Stephanie Pratt admitted to Fox News in March 2019, reflecting on the past drama she had with her brother, Spencer Pratt, on the original show. “I was worried it was going to destroy my family all over again. Spencer felt the same way. Spencer and I are both so honest and opinionated, and fiery — it’s almost a recipe for disaster if it goes bad.” She said there was a shift in their dynamic by the time they started filming The Hills: New Beginnings, which aired from June 2019 to August 2021. “It’s so funny because the original Hills broke us up, and now the new Hills has totally brought us together — geographically and emotionally, and physically.”As for where their relationship currently stands, Spencer Pratt said during his “We Need to Talk” interview that “she's asking for mayor merch every day. And she says it's the only thing that keeps her happy, is me running for mayor.”Stephanie Pratt indicated that she felt otherwise while taking to X. “Spencer has done great work for the palisades. But LA does not need another unqualified and inexperienced mayor,” the Made in Chelsea alum wrote via the social media platform, praising her brother’s advocacy following the January 2026 wildfires, while telling her followers, “A vote for him is a vote for stupidity.” As Us previously reported, Spencer said he wants to lead the change after being personally impacted by the wildfires, as the Pacific Palisades home he shares with wife Heidi Montag was destroyed in early January 2025. “The system in Los Angeles isn’t struggling, it’s fundamentally broken,” he said at the “They Let Us Burn” public demonstration on January 7, 2026, per The New York Post. He added, “It is a machine designed to protect the people at the top and the friends they exchange favors with while the rest of us drown in toxic smoke and ash. Business as usual is a death sentence for Los Angeles, and I’m done waiting for someone to take real action.” Spencer continued, “That’s why I am running for mayor. And let me be clear, this just isn’t a campaign, this is a mission, and we’re gonna expose the system.” After her posts about Spencer went viral, Stephanie also responded to the backlash she was facing with some allegations about her brother, writing, “Everyone saying I should support him no matter what. Sorry he beat me up when I was 18 & put me in the hospital. So no he doesn’t belong in the government. Run the palisades all you want not LA.” “I have no interest in fame, I’m taking a course to become a RBT my passion is helping children and adults with autism,” she doubled down. “I don’t even use instagram. I’m serious about my new career helping people.”
