A special prosecutor has charged former Alaska Attorney General-designee Ed Sniffen with three counts of third-degree sexual abuse of a minor. .

She added that the charging decision was made by special prosecutor Gregg Olson, “and all other prosecutorial actions in this case will likewise be handled by the special prosecutor.” The charges are related to Sniffen’s alleged sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl in 1991, when she was a high school student and Sniffen was the coach of her school’s mock trial team. Attorney Caitlin Shortell, representing the woman in the alleged relationship, said she had no comment Friday and that the woman was unavailable for an interview.
