In his final report, Special Counsel David Weiss defends his investigation into Hunter Biden, refuting President Biden's assertion that the probe was tainted by political motives. Weiss insists the prosecutions were the result of thorough and impartial investigations, not partisan politics. He criticizes President Biden's accusations against the Department of Justice, stating that such claims undermine the integrity of the justice system and erode public confidence.

President Biden issued a pardon for his son, Hunter Biden , claiming he was 'selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted' due to political motivations in his gun and tax convictions. Special counsel David Weiss , whose investigation resulted in two separate criminal convictions against Hunter Biden , refuted President Biden's characterization of his probe, stating in his final report released on Monday by the Justice Department that 'raw politics' did not infect his work.

Weiss' report, spanning 27 pages plus hundreds of pages of public filings, concludes a yearslong and politically charged investigation that fueled President Biden's political opponents in Congress and beyond. Weiss' prosecutors scrutinized Hunter Biden's history of drug and alcohol abuse, his controversial foreign business dealings, and his acquisition of a firearm in 2018. When President Biden pardoned Hunter Biden in early December, just weeks after Election Day, he asserted that 'raw politics has infected' the investigation. 'No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter's cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son -- and that is wrong,' Biden wrote in his pardon announcement. However, Weiss countered, stating that 'Other presidents have pardoned family members, but in doing so, none have taken the occasion as an opportunity to malign the public servants at the Department of Justice based solely on false accusations.' He further emphasized that 'Eight judges across numerous courts have rejected claims that they were the result of selective or vindictive motives. Calling those rulings into question and injecting partisanship into the independent administration of the law undermines the very foundation of what makes America's justice system fair and equitable. It erodes public confidence in an institution that is essential to preserving the rule of law.' Weiss also noted that the pardon prevented him from making 'additional charging decisions' regarding Hunter Biden's conduct over an 11-year span, suggesting the possibility of further charges had the pardon not been issued.
