House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., on Wednesday released a statement on the ongoing debate surrounding the use of bathroom facilities in the Capitol.

The resolution comes ahead of Rep.-elect Sarah McBride, D-Del., being sworn in next year as the first openly transgender member of Congress. “All single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings — such as restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms — are reserved for individuals of that biological sex,” he wrote. “It is important to note that each Member office has its own private restroom, and unisex restrooms are available throughout the Capitol Women deserve women’s only spaces.”“Like all House policies it's enforceable,” he said. “Look, we have single-sex facilities for a reason.
