Speaker confirms Shafie's proposed motion of confidence in Dr M at May 18 Parliament sitting
The matter came to light when a purported letter signed by Shafie in his capacity as MP surfaced on social media.
When contacted, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff M Yusof confirmed the authenticity of the letter from Shafie.On April 17, Dewan Rakyat secretary Riduan Rahmat issued notice to MPs for a one-day sitting on May 18. He also noted the sitting was for the official opening of Parliament by the Agong with no motions accepted or raised.Based on House orders, backbencher MPs will have to officially write in to inform the Speaker of their intention to propose a motion.
