Superstar artist Liam Sharp returns to the world of Spawn as writer and artist for an all-new take on the classic title Spawn: The Dark Ages.

Next year will see the launch of an all-new Spawn: The Dark Ages series, which hasn’t been published in more than 20 years. As opposed to continuing the original story, this new Dark Ages will chronicle the adventures of a new Hellspawn in 5th century Britain.
Liam Sharp posted the announcement to Instagram, as well as a selection of artwork from the upcoming series. The art shows off Sharp’s hyper-detailed style with barbarian warriors and grisly atmosphere aplenty. Sharp returns to the title after 25 years, as he was the initial artist for the original Spawn: The Dark Ages with writer Brian Holguin. With the original lasting for 28 issues from 1999 to 2001, the series hasn’t been revisited until now, with Sharp writing, illustrating and coloring the new comic.
The new Spawn: The Dark Ages series looks to be a completely new take, this time turning back the clock to 4th century Britain. The preview art provided by Sharp features barbarian warriors, Celtic imagery and battles against Roman legionnaires. There’s also a fearsome horned warrior who may or may not be a Hellspawn, as well as a beautiful woman with an elaborate helm.
