Fever guards Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell have been playing incredible basketball since WNBA action returned from the Olympic break. Their offensive expertise will once again be on display against the suspect Sparks defense.The Indiana Fever have clinched a playoff berth on the strength of the highest-scoring backcourt in the WNBA this season.
The Sparks backcourt is young, and they don’t defend the perimeter well. Since the break, opposing guards are draining 47% from inside the arc and 35% from downtown. That should give Mitchell all the room she needs to work. The unrestricted free agent has made 52% of her field goal attempts and 47% from distance since the break, which is why her 26.7 points per game are second in the W since the beginning of August.
Since the break, the former Iowa Hawkeye has seen nothing but fast-paced teams foolish enough to try and out-pace the Fever, and the rookie guard has made them pay. She's shooting 48% from the floor and 38% from downtown in her last seven and is coming off a 28-point night at Dallas. That should boost a decent Los Angeles offense. The Sparks have averaged nearly 80 points a night since the break, and the fast pace alongside Indiana’s leaky defense should allow the ladies to combine for more than 174 points.The Sparks are 3-2-0 ATS across their last five and 9-2-0 ATS in their last 11 games vs. a team with a winning straight-up record.
