A recent poll reveals that nearly half of Americans carry spare underwear for unexpected situations.

Nearly half of Americans carry spare underwear for emergencies. A poll of 2,000 U.S. adults found that 45% have backup underwear, and 70% of those who carry spares have had them come in handy. Common reasons for needing backup include accidents, needing to change clothes during the day, or being accident-prone. Respondents also shared situations where spare underwear would have been useful, such as after a workout, on a hot day, during menstruation, or when experiencing nausea.

The poll, conducted by Talker Research, found that younger generations are more likely to carry backup underwear: 60% of Gen Z and 57% of millennials surveyed said they do. The study also found that people hold onto old underwear for an average of three years, with 10% keeping them for at least six years. An interesting correlation was found between carrying backup underwear and how long people perceive their underwear lasts
