Take Donald Trump for example. No, please, take him. He’s vile. Last week, a New York jury found him liable for sexually assaulting and then defaming writer E Jean Carroll. Surely that must’ve been the end of Trump’s career what with the rampancy of cancel culture and all? Don’t be daft. Trump went on CNN to mock Carroll – to hoots of laughter and peals of applause from the audience. “She’s a wack-job” he told spectators, who guffawed in response.
Like Trump, Depp is also a fan of sexual assault humour. Boys will be boys, after all. Cheeky monkeys. During the trial, Depp’s now infamous texts to friend Paul Bettany were used as evidence. In the messages, they discuss Heard’s murder by “burning” or “drowning” before Depp, the little scamp, suggests “Let’s drown her before we burn her!!! I will f**k her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she’s dead.” He’s a wag, that Johnny.
It doesn’t affect guys like Johnny, though. He received a hero’s welcome at Cannes, where he also enjoyed a seven-minute standing ovation after the screening of his film.
